COAL FLOW ONLINE MEASUREMENT & BALANCING

BACKGROUND

In the Pulverized Coal Boiler, the coal pipes layout are varies and each coal pipes has a different length and layout to the burner.

With the nature of flow loss and resistance, the coal flow will be uneven distributed among different pipe levels to the burner.

However, without a visibility to monitor the coal flow and coal velocity online or continuously, the plant user could not optimize the coal flow balancing.

DEMAND OF FREQUENT BOILER TUNING

Due to the change of coal feed supply,  the characteristic of coal would varies, i.e. from Bituminous to Subbituminous or low rank, the moisture level, the coal quality will be different.

as such, the operation will need to conduct boiler tuning as soon the coal feed changes.  The schedule range from monthly or quarterly even or longer.

SOLUTION – COAL FLOW ONLINE MONITORING & TUNING

often the existing operation only have the portable dirty air flow sensor, which can only measure the air flow velocity, which is in-sufficient.

In order to address this, TECG provides the Online Coal Flow Monitoring and Balancing  Solution.

    • A Real Time coal flow measurement system for up to 8 pipes per mill (no limitation for the number of mills)
    • Coal mass flow in each coal pipe
    • Coal Flow Velocity measurement in each coal pipe
    • Coal Flow Temperature measurement in each coal pipe

TECG Control offers the unique coal flow measurement system.

The Advanced Coal Flow System is especially developed to measure pulverized coal distribution to each burner. This helps balance particulate coal amount in order to avert combustion issues caused by high LOI results.

THE PRINCIPLE & TECHNOLOGY

Massflow Meter is a microwave based mass flow transmitter. The electronic is mounted in the sensor head.

The wave guide is made of stainless steel. It is leading the microwave into the pipe. In the front is an antenna that is protected by a special wear protection ceramic.

The sensor transmits at a specific frequency. The microwave reflected from the single particles is measured and analysed by a patented algorithm and converted into a flow proportional signal.

The flow meter offers several interfaces to transmit the measurement: galvanic isolated 0/4..20mA, pulse output, or Modbus communication.

INSTALLATION

    • Typically Three Mass Flow sensors are installed per pipe. Ideally they are put onto the pipe with a 120° angle in between.
    • The sensors are equipped with plugs (IP66) and are connected to connection boxes with plugs (IP66).
    • The combination of ball valve and plugs allow a quick dust free sensor change. The mill has not to be stopped to exchange a sensor.

HMI & VISUALISATION 

The software runs on the embedded PC integrated in the acquisition unit. It can store the data for at least one year of continuous running.  also provide a visualization package that displays the flow and coal flow distribution in bar graphs and a continuous line recorder.

It also offers a software tool to communicate with each connected sensor for monitoring and diagnostic function.
